  1. John the Baptist Prepares the Way

    In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
  2. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

  16. But if we say, ‘From man,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”
  17. For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.
  18. John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
  19. The Baptism of Jesus

    In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
  20. Jesus Begins His Ministry

    Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God,
  21. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets.

    And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
