1 Cyrus sendeth again the people that was in captivity, 8 and restoreth them their holy vessels. Now in the first year of Cyrus King of Persia (that the word of the LORD, spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah, might be accomplished) the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus King of Persia, and he made a proclamation through all his kingdom, and also by writing, saying,

When David was rebuked by the Prophet Nathan for his great offenses, he did not only acknowledge the same to God, with protestation of his natural corruption and iniquity, but also left a memorial thereof to his posterity. 7 Therefore first he desireth God to forgive his sins, 10 And to renew in him his holy Spirit. 13 With promise that he will not be unmindful of those great graces. 18 Finally, fearing lest God would punish the whole Church for his fault, he requireth that he would rather increase his graces toward the same.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David, when the Prophet Nathan came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving-kindness: according to the multitude of thy compassions put away mine iniquities.

Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thine holy Spirit from me.

A Psalm of David.
Hear my prayer, O Lord, and hearken unto my supplication: answer me in thy truth, and in thy righteousness.

For thus saith he that is high and excellent, he that inhabiteth the eternity, whose Name is the Holy one, I dwell in the high and holy place: with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit to revive the spirit of the humble, and to give life to them that are of a contrite heart.

But they rebelled and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore was he turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.

Then he remembered the old time of Moses and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his sheep? Where is he that put his holy Spirit within him?

Till at the last Daniel came before me, (whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, which hath the spirit of the holy gods in him) and before him I told the dream, saying,

O Belteshazzar, chief of the enchanters, because I know, that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream, that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

This is the dream, that I King Nebuchadnezzar have seen: therefore thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof: for all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to show me the interpretation: but thou art able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods, and in the days of thy father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him: whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made chief of the enchanters, astrologians, Chaldeans, and soothsayers,

Now I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and that light and understanding, and excellent wisdom is found in thee.

He comforteth his disciples, 2, 7 declaring his divinity and the fruit of his death, 16 promising the comforter, 17 even the holy Spirit, 26 whose office he setteth out. 27 He promiseth his peace. Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.

There is difference also between a virgin and a wife: the unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy, both in body and in spirit: but she that is married, careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

Wherefore I declare unto you, that no man speaking by the spirit of God, calleth Jesus execrable: also no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the holy Ghost.

In whom also ye have trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, even the Gospel of your salvation, wherein also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the holy Spirit of promise,

Which in other ages was not opened unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy Apostles and Prophets by the Spirit,

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, by whom ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

He therefore that despiseth these things, despiseth not man, but God who hath even given you his holy Spirit.
