  1. The Beginning

    In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
  2. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
  3. Adam and Eve

    This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.
  4. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.
  5. In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.
  6. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.
  7. Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky.
  8. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
  9. and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.
  10. But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth,
  11. Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the Lord out of the heavens.
  12. God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.
  13. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
  14. The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time
  15. I want you to swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,
  16. “The Lord, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land’—he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there.
  17. May God give you heaven’s dew and earth’s richness— an abundance of grain and new wine.
  18. His father Isaac answered him, “Your dwelling will be away from the earth’s richness, away from the dew of heaven above.
  19. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
  20. He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”
  21. Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.
  22. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”
  23. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
  24. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
  25. Idols and Altars

    Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven:
  26. It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’”
  27. This very day I will begin to put the terror and fear of you on all the nations under heaven. They will hear reports of you and will tremble and be in anguish because of you.”
  28. “Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?
  29. You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens, with black clouds and deep darkness.
  30. And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.
  31. I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed.
  32. The Lord Is God

    Ask now about the former days, long before your time, from the day God created human beings on the earth; ask from one end of the heavens to the other. Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of?
  33. From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire.
  34. Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.
  35. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
  36. He will give their kings into your hand, and you will wipe out their names from under heaven. No one will be able to stand up against you; you will destroy them.
  37. Let me alone, so that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven. And I will make you into a nation stronger and more numerous than they.”
  38. To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.
  39. But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.
  40. Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and he will shut up the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the Lord is giving you.
  41. so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
  42. When the Lord your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!
  43. Look down from heaven, your holy dwelling place, and bless your people Israel and the land you have given us as you promised on oath to our ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey.”
  44. The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.
  45. The Lord will never be willing to forgive them; his wrath and zeal will burn against them. All the curses written in this book will fall on them, and the Lord will blot out their names from under heaven.
  46. Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back.
  47. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?”
  48. This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live
  49. Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to testify against them.
  50. Listen, you heavens, and I will speak; hear, you earth, the words of my mouth.
