  1. Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

  13. Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.”
  14. The second son he named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”
  15. He blessed them that day and said, “In your name will Israel pronounce this blessing: ‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’” So he put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.

  17. God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ “This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.
  18. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself fully known to them.
  19. and the other was named Eliezer, for he said, “My father’s God was my helper; he saved me from the sword of Pharaoh.”
  20. “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
  21. “Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips.
  22. Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
  23. “‘Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.
  24. “‘Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.
  25. They must be holy to their God and must not profane the name of their God. Because they present the food offerings to the Lord, the food of their God, they are to be holy.
