  1. I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
  2. ‘And as for those of you who are left, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; the sound of a shaken leaf shall cause them to flee; they shall flee as though fleeing from a sword, and they shall fall when no one pursues.

  17. You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you.
  18. when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
  19. then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’
  20. “Do not think in your heart, after the Lord your God has cast them out before you, saying, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land’; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out from before you.
  21. It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God drives them out from before you, and that He may fulfill the word which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

    “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
  23. Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer.
  24. ‘And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,
  25. Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them,
