  19. Nebuchadnezzar’s Reward

    In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month on the first day, the word of the Lord came to me:
  20. “Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon drove his army in a hard campaign against Tyre; every head was rubbed bare and every shoulder made raw. Yet he and his army got no reward from the campaign he led against Tyre.
  21. I have given him Egypt as a reward for his efforts because he and his army did it for me, declares the Sovereign Lord.
  22. But if you tell me the dream and explain it, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and interpret it for me.”
  23. Then Daniel answered the king, “You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means.
  24. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
  25. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
