  1. “When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and give praise to your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them,
  2. then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance.
  3. then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive, and deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know the human heart),

  7. The Dedication of the Temple

    When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.
  8. “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people,
  9. if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

  32. So you delivered them into the hands of their enemies, who oppressed them. But when they were oppressed they cried out to you. From heaven you heard them, and in your great compassion you gave them deliverers, who rescued them from the hand of their enemies.
  33. “But as soon as they were at rest, they again did what was evil in your sight. Then you abandoned them to the hand of their enemies so that they ruled over them. And when they cried out to you again, you heard from heaven, and in your compassion you delivered them time after time.
  34. While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”
  35. He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea.
  36. They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know?
  37. so he lies down and does not rise; till the heavens are no more, people will not awake or be roused from their sleep.

  44. “Dominion and awe belong to God; he establishes order in the heights of heaven.
  45. The pillars of the heavens quake, aghast at his rebuke.
  46. for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.
  47. Look up at the heavens and see; gaze at the clouds so high above you.
  48. He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth.
  49. From whose womb comes the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens
  50. Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up God’s dominion over the earth?
