A Memorial of Redemption
For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; but when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to strike you.
-
If a ransom is demanded of him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is demanded of him.
-
The Law of Redemption
‘The land, moreover, shall not be sold permanently, because the land is Mine; for you are only strangers and residents with Me.
-
So for every piece of your property, you are to provide for the redemption of the land.
-
Or in case someone has no redeemer, but recovers to find sufficient means for its redemption,
-
‘Likewise, if a man sells a dwelling house in a walled city, then his redemption right remains valid until a full year after its sale; his right of redemption lasts a full year.
-
The houses of the villages, however, which have no surrounding wall, shall be regarded as open fields; they have redemption rights and revert in the jubilee.
-
As for the cities of the Levites, the Levites have a permanent right of redemption for the houses of the cities which are their possession.
-
then he shall have redemption right after he has been sold. One of his brothers may redeem him,
-
If there are still many years remaining, he shall refund part of his purchase price in proportion to them for his own redemption;
-
but if few years remain until the year of jubilee, he shall so calculate with him. In proportion to his years he is to refund the amount for his redemption.
-
And as a redemption price for the 273 of the firstborn of the sons of Israel who are in excess of the number of the Levites,
-
and you shall give the money, the redemption price of those who are in excess among them, to Aaron and to his sons.”
-
So Moses took the redemption money from those who were in excess of the number of those redeemed by the Levites;
-
Then Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and to his sons, at the command of the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
-
As to their redemption price, from a month old you shall redeem them, by your assessment, five shekels in silver by the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs.
-
Then the redeemer said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, otherwise I would jeopardize my own inheritance. Redeem it for yourself; you may have my right of redemption, since I cannot redeem it.”
-
Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning the redemption and the exchange of land to confirm any matter: a man removed his sandal and gave it to another; and this was the way of confirmation in Israel.
-
For the redemption of his soul is priceless, And he should cease imagining forever—
-
He has sent redemption to His people; He has ordained His covenant forever; Holy and awesome is His name.
-
Israel, wait for the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption.
-
For the day of vengeance was in My heart, And My year of redemption has come.
-
‘Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle is coming to you, saying, “Buy for yourself my field which is at Anathoth, for you have the right of redemption to buy it.”’
-
Then my uncle’s son Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard in accordance with the word of the Lord and said to me, ‘Buy my field, please, that is at Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for you have the right of possession and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.

Hosea’s Redemption of Gomer
Then the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by her husband, yet is committing adultery, as the Lord loves the sons of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.”
