Jesse the father of David the king. David became the father of Solomon, whose mother had been the wife of Uriah.
-
Thus the total number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen generations; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations; from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah, fourteen generations. The Birth of Jesus.
-
Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her.
-
And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed [him], crying out, “Son of David, have pity on us!”
-
He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry,
-
All the crowd was astounded, and said, “Could this perhaps be the Son of David?”
-
And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.”
-
Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “[Lord,] Son of David, have pity on us!”
-
The crowd warned them to be silent, but they called out all the more, “Lord, Son of David, have pity on us!”
-
The crowds preceding him and those following kept crying out and saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest.”
-
When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wondrous things he was doing, and the children crying out in the temple area, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant

The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” The Question About David’s Son.
-
saying, “What is your opinion about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” They replied, “David’s.”
-
He said to them, “How, then, does David, inspired by the Spirit, call him ‘lord,’ saying:
-
If David calls him ‘lord,’ how can he be his son?”
-
He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry?
-
On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, son of David, have pity on me.”
-
And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me.”
-
Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is to come! Hosanna in the highest!”
-
And when Jesus saw that [he] answered with understanding, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one dared to ask him any more questions. The Question About David’s Son.
-
As Jesus was teaching in the temple area he said, “How do the scribes claim that the Messiah is the son of David?
-
David himself, inspired by the holy Spirit, said: ‘The Lord said to my lord, “Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet.”’
-
David himself calls him ‘lord’; so how is he his son?” [The] great crowd heard this with delight. Denunciation of the Scribes.

to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.
-
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
-
He has raised up a horn for our salvation within the house of David his servant,
-
And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
-
For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.
-
the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
-
Jesus said to them in reply, “Have you not read what David did when he and those [who were] with him were hungry?
-
He shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me!”
-
The people walking in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent, but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have pity on me!”
-
And they no longer dared to ask him anything. The Question About David’s Son.
-
Then he said to them, “How do they claim that the Messiah is the Son of David?
-
For David himself in the Book of Psalms says: ‘The Lord said to my lord, “Sit at my right hand
-
Now if David calls him ‘lord,’ how can he be his son?” Denunciation of the Scribes.
-
Does not scripture say that the Messiah will be of David’s family and come from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?”
-
“My brothers, the scripture had to be fulfilled which the holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus.
-
For David says of him: ‘I saw the Lord ever before me, with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
-
My brothers, one can confidently say to you about the patriarch David that he died and was buried, and his tomb is in our midst to this day.
-
For David did not go up into heaven, but he himself said: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand
-
you said by the holy Spirit through the mouth of our father David, your servant: ‘Why did the Gentiles rage and the peoples entertain folly?
-
Our ancestors who inherited it brought it with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out from before our ancestors, up to the time of David,
-
Then he removed him and raised up David as their king; of him he testified, ‘I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will carry out my every wish.’
-
And that he raised him from the dead never to return to corruption he declared in this way, ‘I shall give you the benefits assured to David.’
-
Now David, after he had served the will of God in his lifetime, fell asleep, was gathered to his ancestors, and did see corruption.
-
‘After this I shall return and rebuild the fallen hut of David; from its ruins I shall rebuild it and raise it up again,

And David says: “Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them;
-
Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David: such is my gospel,
-
he once more set a day, “today,” when long afterwards he spoke through David, as already quoted: “Oh, that today you would hear his voice: ‘Harden not your hearts.’”
-
What more shall I say? I have not time to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets,

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia, write this: “‘The holy one, the true, who holds the key of David, who opens and no one shall close, who closes and no one shall open, says this:
-
One of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. The lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has triumphed, enabling him to open the scroll with its seven seals.”
-
“I, Jesus, sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the root and offspring of David, the bright morning star.”
