If, then, perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people had received the law), what further need would there have been for another kind of priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, · rather than one designated after the order of Aaron?

(for the law made nothing perfect); but the introduction of a better hope through which we draw near to God.

For the law appoints men as high priests who have weaknesses, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints the Son who has been made perfect for all time.

For since the law is but a shadow of the good things to come and not the actual form of those realities, it can never perfect those who draw near by the same sacrifices which they offer continuously · year after year.

But the person who looks intently into the perfect law, the law that provides liberty, and continues in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer—he will be blessed in · his doing.
