  1. “So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.
  2. I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell the people everything I command him.
  3. “If you refuse to obey all the words of instruction that are written in this book, and if you do not fear the glorious and awesome name of the Lord your God,

  8. Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants.
  9. So Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and recited all the words of this song to the people.
  10. When Moses had finished reciting all these words to the people of Israel,
  11. he added: “Take to heart all the words of warning I have given you today. Pass them on as a command to your children so they will obey every word of these instructions.
  12. These instructions are not empty words—they are your life! By obeying them you will enjoy a long life in the land you will occupy when you cross the Jordan River.”
  13. Anyone who rebels against your orders and does not obey your words and everything you command will be put to death. So be strong and courageous!”
  14. Joshua’s Final Words to Israel

    The years passed, and the Lord had given the people of Israel rest from all their enemies. Joshua, who was now very old,
  15. “Her wise women answer, and she repeats these words to herself:
  16. So Manoah asked him, “When your words come true, what kind of rules should govern the boy’s life and work?”
  17. And Samuel’s words went out to all the people of Israel.

    The Philistines Capture the Ark

    At that time Israel was at war with the Philistines. The Israelite army was camped near Ebenezer, and the Philistines were at Aphek.
  18. Saul fell full length on the ground, paralyzed with fright because of Samuel’s words. He was also faint with hunger, for he had eaten nothing all day and all night.
  19. For you are God, O Sovereign Lord. Your words are truth, and you have promised these good things to your servant.
  20. David’s Last Words

    These are the last words of David: “David, the son of Jesse, speaks— David, the man who was raised up so high, David, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, David, the sweet psalmist of Israel.
  21. “The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my tongue.
  22. And may these words that I have prayed in the presence of the Lord be before him constantly, day and night, so that the Lord our God may give justice to me and to his people Israel, according to each day’s needs.
  23. The men took this as a good sign and quickly picked up on his words. “Yes,” they said, “your brother Ben-hadad!” “Go and get him,” the king of Israel told them. And when Ben-hadad arrived, Ahab invited him up into his chariot.
  24. But Micaiah replied, “If you return safely, it will mean that the Lord has not spoken through me!” Then he added to those standing around, “Everyone mark my words!”
  25. “It’s not us, my lord the king,” one of the officers replied. “Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel even the words you speak in the privacy of your bedroom!”
