  19. These were the offerings of the Israelite leaders for the dedication of the altar when it was anointed: twelve silver plates, twelve silver sprinkling bowls and twelve gold dishes.
  20. If only one is sounded, the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you.
  21. The Lord said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you.
  22. “Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.”
  23. So at the Lord’s command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.
  24. And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”
  25. and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men, well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council.
