  1. “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.

  11. He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”
  12. “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
  13. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
  14. “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.
  15. When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.
  16. because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now—and never to be equaled again.
  17. “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
  18. And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” ).
  19. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
  20. Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.
  21. After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.
