  19. I will make their widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. At midday I will bring a destroyer against the mothers of their young men; suddenly I will bring down on them anguish and terror.
  20. So give their children over to famine; hand them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives be made childless and widows; let their men be put to death, their young men slain by the sword in battle.
  21. This is what the Lord says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.
  22. ‘Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive. Your widows too can depend on me.’”
  23. How deserted lies the city, once so full of people! How like a widow is she, who once was great among the nations! She who was queen among the provinces has now become a slave.
  24. We have become fatherless, our mothers are widows.
  25. In you they have treated father and mother with contempt; in you they have oppressed the foreigner and mistreated the fatherless and the widow.
