  1. Can the black Moor change his skin? or the leopard his spots, then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil?
  2. Now when Ebed-Melech ye black Moor, one of the Eunuchs which was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon, (then the king sat in the gate of Benjamin)
  3. Then the king commanded Ebed-Melech the black Moor, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take Jeremiah the Prophet out of the dungeon before he die.
  4. And Ebed-Melech the black Moor said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old rotten rags and worn, under thine arm holes, between the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
  5. Go and speak to Ebed-Melech the black Moor, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good, and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee.
  6. Come up ye horses, and rage ye chariots, and let the valiant men come forth, the black Moors, and the Libyans that bear the shield, and the Lydians that handle and bend the bow.
  7. Behold, therefore I come upon thee, and upon thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate from the tower of Syene, even unto the borders of the black Moors.
  8. In that day shall there messengers go forth from me in ships, to make the careless Moors afraid, and fear shall come upon them, as in the day of Egypt: for lo, it cometh.
