  2. Now when he came, there was Eli, sitting on a seat by the wayside watching, for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city and told it, all the city cried out.

  7. So they went up to the city. As they were coming into the city, there was Samuel, coming out toward them on his way up to the high place.
  8. They arose early; and it was about the dawning of the day that Samuel called to Saul on the top of the house, saying, “Get up, that I may send you on your way.” And Saul arose, and both of them went outside, he and Samuel.
  9. Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.
  10. Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt.
  11. And Saul attacked the Amalekites, from Havilah all the way to Shur, which is east of Egypt.
  12. And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him.
  13. But if I say thus to the young man, ‘Look, the arrows are beyond you’—go your way, for the Lord has sent you away.
  14. So David restrained his servants with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on his way.
  15. Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still prevail.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
  16. Now therefore, please, heed also the voice of your maidservant, and let me set a piece of bread before you; and eat, that you may have strength when you go on your way.”
  17. and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way.
