  1. And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?”

  16. Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”
  17. And David said to Saul, “Let no man's heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
  18. And David took these words to heart and was much afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

  20. And afterward David's heart struck him, because he had cut off a corner of Saul's robe.

  22. In the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
  23. David Flees to the Philistines

    Then David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.”
  24. When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
