  1. She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

  9. The servant answered him again. “Look,” he said, “I have a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us what way to take.”
  10. They went up to the town, and as they were entering it, there was Samuel, coming toward them on his way up to the high place.
  11. “I am the seer,” Samuel replied. “Go up ahead of me to the high place, for today you are to eat with me, and in the morning I will send you on your way and will tell you all that is in your heart.
  12. They rose about daybreak, and Samuel called to Saul on the roof, “Get ready, and I will send you on your way.” When Saul got ready, he and Samuel went outside together.
  13. As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.
  14. This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.
  15. Then Saul attacked the Amalekites all the way from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt.
  16. Samuel Anoints David

    The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”
  17. He came to the sheep pens along the way; a cave was there, and Saul went in to relieve himself. David and his men were far back in the cave.
  18. With these words David sharply rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way.
  19. When a man finds his enemy, does he let him get away unharmed? May the Lord reward you well for the way you treated me today.
  20. Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, David my son; you will do great things and surely triumph.” So David went on his way, and Saul returned home.
  21. Now please listen to your servant and let me give you some food so you may eat and have the strength to go on your way.”
  22. and had taken captive the women and everyone else in it, both young and old. They killed none of them, but carried them off as they went on their way.
