  1. God’s Final Word: His Son

    In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
  2. but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.

  12. And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed?
  13. A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God

    Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.
  14. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’” And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world.
  15. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.”
  16. God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”

  21. The Certainty of God’s Promise

    When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself,
  22. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.
  23. This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises.
  24. because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.
  25. one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life.
