  1. For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
  2. Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people.
  3. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

  8. Christ's Sacrifice Once for All

    For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.
  9. But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.
  10. Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me;
  11. When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law),
  12. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
  13. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,
  14. For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
  15. By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.
  16. Sacrifices Pleasing to God

    Let brotherly love continue.
  17. For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp.
  18. Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
  19. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
