  1. For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”?

  7. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
  8. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)
  9. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
  10. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
  11. For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
  12. for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.
  13. and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace.
  14. For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar.
  15. For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer.
  16. They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”
  17. For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
  18. Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
  19. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own,
  20. Christ's Sacrifice Once for All

    For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.
  21. But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.
  22. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
  23. Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

    Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
  24. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
  25. Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
  26. equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
