  7. The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

    For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”
  8. Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”
  9. But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.”
  10. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—
  11. The Law and the Promise

    To give a human example, brothers: even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified.
  12. This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.
  13. For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.
  14. Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary.
  15. Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law.
  16. Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed.
  17. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith.
  18. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,
  19. to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
  20. Example of Hagar and Sarah

    Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not listen to the law?
  21. I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law.
  22. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.
  23. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
  24. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
  25. gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
  26. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
  27. For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.
