  1. For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
  2. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?
  3. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
  4. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
  5. But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.
  6. But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.
  7. If anyone is worried that he might not be acting honorably toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if his passions are too strong and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married.
  8. But not everyone possesses this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.
  9. When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
  10. Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.
  11. For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!
  12. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.
  13. So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
  14. So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church.
  15. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.
  16. Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now put in the position of an inquirer, say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying?
  17. But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all,
  18. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
  19. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
  20. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
  21. Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.
  22. The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
