  1. Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.

  8. Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
  9. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.
  10. Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
  11. But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance.
  12. But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.
  13. Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.
  14. I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death.
  15. For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death.
  16. So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.
  17. Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good to bring about my death, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
  18. Present Suffering and Future Glory

    I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
  19. For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
  20. Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?
  21. Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
  22. Ingrafted Branches

    Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.
  23. All Israel Will Be Saved

    I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,
  24. and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
  25. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.
