  2. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness.
  3. When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it.
  4. For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight.
  5. Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it.
  6. The Jewish ceremony of circumcision has value only if you obey God’s law. But if you don’t obey God’s law, you are no better off than an uncircumcised Gentile.

  16. Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you.
  17. But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in the Spirit.
  18. Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
  19. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.
  20. Pray that I will be rescued from those in Judea who refuse to obey God. Pray also that the believers there will be willing to accept the donation I am taking to Jerusalem.
  21. But now as the prophets foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him.
