  16. And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
  17. Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
  18. Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
  19. Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
  20. And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
  21. Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.
  22. And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

  24. And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
  25. Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?
