  1. to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony.

  13. Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.
  14. Many Samaritans Believe

    Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!”
  15. long enough for many more to hear his message and believe.
  16. Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.”
  17. Jesus asked, “Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders?”
  18. Then Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!” And the man believed what Jesus said and started home.
  19. Then the father realized that that was the very time Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” And he and his entire household believed in Jesus.
  20. “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.
  21. and you do not have his message in your hearts, because you do not believe me—the one he sent to you.
  22. No wonder you can’t believe! For you gladly honor each other, but you don’t care about the honor that comes from the one who alone is God.
  23. If you really believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me.
  24. But since you don’t believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”
  25. Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
  26. They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do?
  27. Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
  28. But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me.
  29. For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.”
  30. “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life.
  31. But some of you do not believe me.” (For Jesus knew from the beginning which ones didn’t believe, and he knew who would betray him.)
  32. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.”
  33. For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.
  34. But here he is, speaking in public, and they say nothing to him. Could our leaders possibly believe that he is the Messiah?

  40. Jesus and Abraham

    Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.
  41. So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me!
  42. Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me?
  43. The Jewish leaders still refused to believe the man had been blind and could now see, so they called in his parents.
  44. Spiritual Blindness

    When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
  45. The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.”
  46. “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said. And he worshiped Jesus.
  47. Jesus replied, “I have already told you, and you don’t believe me. The proof is the work I do in my Father’s name.
  48. But you don’t believe me because you are not my sheep.
  49. Don’t believe me unless I carry out my Father’s work.
  50. But if I do his work, believe in the evidence of the miraculous works I have done, even if you don’t believe me. Then you will know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father.”
  51. And many who were there believed in Jesus.
  52. And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. Come, let’s go see him.”
  53. Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.
  54. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
  55. “Yes, Lord,” she told him. “I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God.”
  56. Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?”
  57. You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.”
  58. The Plot to Kill Jesus

    Many of the people who were with Mary believed in Jesus when they saw this happen.
  59. If we allow him to go on like this, soon everyone will believe in him. Then the Roman army will come and destroy both our Temple and our nation.”
  60. for it was because of him that many of the people had deserted them and believed in Jesus.
  61. The Unbelief of the People

    But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him.
  62. This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted: “Lord, who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm?”
  63. But the people couldn’t believe, for as Isaiah also said,
  64. Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue.
  65. I tell you this beforehand, so that when it happens you will believe that I am the Messiah.
  66. Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.
  67. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.
  68. “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.
  69. I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.
  70. The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.
  71. for the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God.
  72. Now we understand that you know everything, and there’s no need to question you. From this we believe that you came from God.”
  73. Jesus asked, “Do you finally believe?
  74. for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.
  75. “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.
  76. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
  77. (This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account. He speaks the truth so that you also may continue to believe.)
  78. Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed—
  79. They told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.”
  80. Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”
  81. Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”
  82. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.
  83. So the rumor spread among the community of believers that this disciple wouldn’t die. But that isn’t what Jesus said at all. He only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”
