  1. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.
  2. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).
  3. And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).
  4. Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up,
  5. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
  6. (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)
  7. The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.
  8. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
  9. “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
  10. Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.”
  11. Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.” Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.
  12. Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”
  13. Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)
  14. Peter’s First Denial

    Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard,
  15. Peter’s Second and Third Denials

    Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” He denied it, saying, “I am not.”
  16. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”
  17. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there,
  18. Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together.
  19. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
  20. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.
  21. So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn.
  22. Jesus Reinstates Peter

    When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
  23. Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
  24. The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
