  1. But your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will enter it. Encourage him, because he will lead Israel to inherit it.
  2. Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children.”
  3. These are the commandments the Lord proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
  4. But be assured today that the Lord your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the Lord has promised you.
  5. The Lord gave me two stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God. On them were all the commandments the Lord proclaimed to you on the mountain out of the fire, on the day of the assembly.
  6. The Lord wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments he had proclaimed to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. And the Lord gave them to me.
  7. For six days eat unleavened bread and on the seventh day hold an assembly to the Lord your God and do no work.
  8. Law Courts

    If cases come before your courts that are too difficult for you to judge—whether bloodshed, lawsuits or assaults—take them to the place the Lord your God will choose.
  9. For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”
  10. But if out of hate someone lies in wait, assaults and kills a neighbor, and then flees to one of these cities,
  11. The Levitical priests shall step forward, for the Lord your God has chosen them to minister and to pronounce blessings in the name of the Lord and to decide all cases of dispute and assault.
  12. Exclusion From the Assembly

    No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the Lord.
  13. No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, not even in the tenth generation.
  14. No Ammonite or Moabite or any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, not even in the tenth generation.
  15. The third generation of children born to them may enter the assembly of the Lord.
  16. If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts,
  17. Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and follow carefully all the words of this law.
  18. Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officials, so that I can speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to testify against them.
  19. The Song of Moses

    And Moses recited the words of this song from beginning to end in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel:
  20. the law that Moses gave us, the possession of the assembly of Jacob.
  21. He was king over Jeshurun when the leaders of the people assembled, along with the tribes of Israel.
  22. He chose the best land for himself; the leader’s portion was kept for him. When the heads of the people assembled, he carried out the Lord’s righteous will, and his judgments concerning Israel.”
