Conclusion of the Historical Résumé

During those days the Israelites traveled from Beeroth Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and his son Eleazar became priest in his place.

You will go to the Levitical priests and the judge in office in those days and seek a solution; they will render a verdict.

The person who pays no attention to the priest currently serving the Lord your God there, or to the judge—that person must die, so that you may purge evil from Israel.

When he sits on his royal throne he must make a copy of this law on a scroll given to him by the Levitical priests.

Provision for Priests and Levites

The Levitical priests—indeed, the entire tribe of Levi—will have no allotment or inheritance with Israel; they may eat the burnt offerings of the Lord and of his inheritance.

This shall be the priests’ fair allotment from the people who offer sacrifices, whether bull or sheep—they must give to the priest the shoulder, the jowls, and the stomach.

then both parties to the controversy must stand before the Lord, that is, before the priests and judges who will be in office in those days.

As you move forward for battle, the priest will approach and say to the soldiers,

Then the Levitical priests will approach (for the Lord your God has chosen them to serve him and to pronounce blessings in his name, and to decide every judicial verdict) ,

Respect for Human Dignity

Be careful during an outbreak of leprosy to follow precisely all that the Levitical priests instruct you; as I have commanded them, so you should do.

You must go to the priest in office at that time and say to him, “I declare today to the Lord your God that I have come into the land that the Lord promised to our ancestors to give us.”

The priest will then take the basket from you and set it before the altar of the Lord your God.

Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel: “Be quiet and pay attention, Israel. Today you have become the people of the Lord your God.

The Deposit of the Covenant Text

Then Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the Levitical priests, who carry the ark of the Lord’s covenant, and to all Israel’s elders.
