    “And I sent messengers from the Wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying,
  2. “When you go near a city to fight against it, then proclaim an offer of peace to it.
  3. And it shall be that if they accept your offer of peace, and open to you, then all the people who are found in it shall be placed under tribute to you, and serve you.
  4. Now if the city will not make peace with you, but war against you, then you shall besiege it.
  5. You shall not seek their peace nor their prosperity all your days forever.
  6. You shall offer peace offerings, and shall eat there, and rejoice before the Lord your God.
  7. and so it may not happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall have peace, even though I follow the dictates of my heart’—as though the drunkard could be included with the sober.
