Love for Enemies
‘But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

‘If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

for he loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for us.’

When they could not pay, he cancelled the debts for both of them. Now which of them will love him more?’

Therefore, I tell you, her sins, which were many, have been forgiven; hence she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.’

Woe to you Pharisees! For you love to have the seat of honour in the synagogues and to be greeted with respect in the market-places.

No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.’

The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they ridiculed him.

‘Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love to be greeted with respect in the market-places, and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honour at banquets.
