As he came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples ahead.

And the disciples simply replied, “The Lord needs it.”

Then, with the crowds listening, he turned to his disciples and said,

Jesus Speaks about the Future
Some of his disciples began talking about the majestic stonework of the Temple and the memorial decorations on the walls. But Jesus said,

Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples,

say to the owner, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

The disciples began to ask each other which of them would ever do such a thing.

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives.

At last he stood up again and returned to the disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted from grief.

Jesus Is Betrayed and Arrested
But even as Jesus said this, a crowd approached, led by Judas, one of the twelve disciples. Judas walked over to Jesus to greet him with a kiss.

When the other disciples saw what was about to happen, they exclaimed, “Lord, should we fight? We brought the swords!”

So they rushed back from the tomb to tell his eleven disciples—and everyone else—what had happened.

And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and the others who had gathered with them,

Jesus Appears to the Disciples
Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread.
