  18. Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman

    When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.
  19. A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.
  20. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
  21. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
  22. Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
  23. The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
  24. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’”
  25. Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world,
  26. Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?
  27. Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
  28. Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?
  29. The Parable of the Lost Sheep

    Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus.
  30. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
  31. I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
  32. In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

  41. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
  42. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
  43. Paying Taxes to Caesar

    Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.
  44. Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
  45. and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection.
  46. But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?
  47. ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
  48. but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.
  49. and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
