  11. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
  12. Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath

    One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain.
  13. And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
  14. A Great Crowd Follows Jesus

    Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea
  15. And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him,
  16. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”
  17. But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.
  18. Jesus' Mother and Brothers

    And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him.
  19. And he was teaching them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them:
  20. He did not speak to them without a parable, but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

  25. And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
  26. Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

    He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him.
  27. And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands?
  28. Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
  29. And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.”
  30. And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.
  31. For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because he had married her.
  32. But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.
  33. For when Herodias's daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”
  34. And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her.
  35. and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.
  36. When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
  37. And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late.
  38. Jesus Walks on the Water

    Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.
  39. And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
  40. they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.
  41. But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)—
  42. then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother,
  43. And when he had entered the house and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable.
  44. since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.)
  45. But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet.
  46. And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him.
  47. And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue.
  48. And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.
  49. Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand

    In those days, when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them,
  50. And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?”
  51. And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd.
  52. And immediately he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha.
  53. And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
  54. And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?”
  55. Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
  56. And he sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.”
  57. Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

    And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?”
  58. Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

    And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.
  59. But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
  60. And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
  61. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.
  62. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
  63. For what can a man give in return for his soul?
  64. For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
  65. and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.
  66. And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.”
  67. And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
  68. And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
  69. for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
  70. And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them,
  71. For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.

    “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.

    And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.
  113. And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.
  114. And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.
  115. And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.
  116. And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
  117. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”
