    He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground.
  2. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.
  3. The Parable of the Mustard Seed

    Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it?
  4. It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth.
  5. “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up.
  6. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants.
  7. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
  8. “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.
  9. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.
  10. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
  11. The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast

    Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to?
  12. It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.”
  13. He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.
  14. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
  15. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.
  16. If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you?
  17. When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else.
  18. But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.
  19. Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
  20. The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ.
  21. Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator.
  22. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
  23. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
  24. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
