and don’t think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”

and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you’ and ‘with their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

Is there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

But the tenants seized his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, and the one on whom it falls will be crushed.”

Judgment on Israel
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!

And he said to them, “Do you see all these things? I tell you the truth, not one stone will be left on another. All will be torn down!”

and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut in the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance of the tomb and went away.

So they went with the soldiers of the guard and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone.

Suddenly there was a severe earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat on it.

Each night and every day among the tombs and in the mountains, he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

Have you not read this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

The Destruction of the Temple
Now as Jesus was going out of the temple courts, one of his disciples said to him, “Teacher, look at these tremendous stones and buildings!”

Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left on another. All will be torn down!”

After Joseph bought a linen cloth and took down the body, he wrapped it in the linen and placed it in a tomb cut out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone across the entrance of the tomb.

They had been asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?”

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled back.

Therefore produce fruit that proves your repentance, and don’t begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!
