The Laborers in the Vineyard
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.
-
After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
-
and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went.
-
They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’
-
And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’
-
The Parable of the Two Sons
“What do you think? A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’
-
The Parable of the Wicked Tenants
“Hear another parable. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country.
-
And they took him and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
-
When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”
-
They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”
-
I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
-
And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink.
-
The Parable of the Wicked Tenants
And he began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a pit for the wine press, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country.
-
When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.
-
And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
-
What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and give the vineyard to others.
-
Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
-
And one ran and, filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Eli′jah will come to take him down.”
-
The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree
And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
-
And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Lo, these three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down; why should it use up the ground?’
-
The Parable of the Wicked Tenants
And he began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country for a long while.
-
When the time came, he sent a servant to the tenants, that they should give him some of the fruit of the vineyard; but the tenants beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.
-
Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will respect him.’
-
And they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
-
He will come and destroy those tenants, and give the vineyard to others.” When they heard this, they said, “God forbid!”
