-
This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.’ ”
-
so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
-
This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah, “He took our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
-
This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
-
With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah that says: ‘You will indeed listen but never understand, and you will indeed look but never perceive.
-
You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied rightly about you when he said:
-
As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way,
-
He said to them, “Isaiah prophesied rightly about you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me;
-
as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.
-
and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:
-
He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ ” as the prophet Isaiah said.
-
This was to fulfill the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
-
And so they could not believe, because Isaiah also said,
-
Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke about him.
-
and was returning home; seated in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah.
-
So Philip ran up to it and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah. He asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
-
So they disagreed with each other, and as they were leaving Paul made one further statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah,
-
And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “Though the number of the children of Israel were like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will be saved,
-
And as Isaiah predicted, “If the Lord of hosts had not left descendants to us, we would have fared like Sodom and been made like Gomorrah.”
-
But not all have obeyed the good news, for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”
-
Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.”
-
and again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse shall come, the one who rises to rule the gentiles; in him the gentiles shall hope.”
