  1. in purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love,
  2. Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and of spirit, making holiness perfect in the fear of God.

  13. The Works of the Flesh

    Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh.
  14. For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want.
  15. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the law.

    By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,
  17. If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.
  18. Bear One Another’s Burdens

    My brothers and sisters, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted.
  19. If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh, but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit.

  21. Spiritual Blessings in Christ

    Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
  22. In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit;
  23. that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him,
  24. in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient.
  25. for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father.
  26. in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.
  27. In former generations this mystery was not made known to humankind, as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit:
  28. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit

  40. Imitating Christ’s Humility

    If, then, there is any comfort in Christ, any consolation from love, any partnership in the Spirit, any tender affection and sympathy,
  41. For it is we who are the circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and boast in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh—

  50. Therefore whoever rejects this rejects not human authority but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you.
  51. Do not quench the Spirit.
  52. May the God of peace himself sanctify you entirely, and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  54. Chosen for Salvation

    But we must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
  55. Without any doubt, the mystery of godliness is great: He was revealed in flesh, vindicated in spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up in glory.
  56. False Asceticism

    Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,
  57. for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.
  58. Guard the good deposit entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in us.
  59. The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

  67. For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened and have tasted the heavenly gift and have shared in the Holy Spirit
  68. By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the sanctuary has not yet been disclosed as long as the first tent is still standing.
  69. how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God!
  70. And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,
  71. How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by those who have spurned the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant by which they were sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of grace?
  72. Moreover, we had human parents to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not be even more willing to be subject to the Father of spirits and live?
  73. and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

  77. inquiring about the time and circumstances that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings intended for Christ and the subsequent glory.
  78. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things that have now been announced to you through those who brought you good news by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look!
  79. Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation—
  80. like living stones let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
  81. rather, let your adornment be the inner self with the lasting beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God’s sight.
  82. Suffering for Doing Right

    Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
  83. For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
  84. in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison,
  85. For this is the reason the gospel was proclaimed even to the dead, so that, though they had been judged in the flesh as everyone is judged, they might live in the spirit as God does.
  86. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you.
  87. because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

  89. Testing the Spirits

    Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
  90. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
  91. and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. And this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.
  92. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us, and whoever is not from God does not listen to us. From this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
  93. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
  94. Testimony concerning the Son of God

    This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth.
  95. the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree.
  96. It is these worldly people, devoid of the Spirit, who are causing divisions.
  97. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit;

  104. The Message to Sardis

    “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works; you have a name of being alive, but you are dead.

  115. So he carried me away in the spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns.
  116. He called out with a mighty voice, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! It has become a dwelling place of demons, a haunt of every foul spirit, a haunt of every foul bird, a haunt of every foul and hateful beast.
