  11. So they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”
  12. And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
  13. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—
  14. And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
  15. Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
  16. But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”
  17. Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, “Look, He is calling for Elijah!”
  18. Then someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.”
  19. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
  20. But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land;
  21. but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
  22. and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again.
  23. So they answered and said, “John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
  24. And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,
  25. Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
