  18. yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us.
  19. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
  20. For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.
  21. and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
  22. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me.
  23. without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God.
  24. that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.
  25. in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.
