  1. The Faith of the Centurion

    When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
  2. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
  3. But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’
  4. The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
  5. “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
  6. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
  7. But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)—
  8. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
  9. Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
  10. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.

  12. Jesus Heals Many

    Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her.
  13. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
  14. They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.”
  15. Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
  16. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

  19. He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
  20. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—
  21. This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
  22. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.
  23. As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
  24. In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor.
  25. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive.
