  1. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
  2. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
  3. With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.

  10. Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.
  11. Jesus Greater Than Moses

    Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.
  12. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
  13. God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
  14. And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.
  15. By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
  16. A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place.
  17. Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place,
  18. For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.
  19. A Call to Persevere in Faith

    Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,
  20. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
  21. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
  22. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.
  23. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
  24. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
  25. Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.
  26. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
  27. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

  31. Confirming One’s Calling and Election

    His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
  32. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,
  33. See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

  36. A Call to Persevere

    But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.

  46. This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.
  47. This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.
  48. Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.”
  49. Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, “Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.”
