  16. “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.
  17. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
  18. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
  19. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.
  20. Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
  21. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
  22. In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”
  23. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.
  24. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
  25. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
