    The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham:
  2. Jesse fathered David the king. David fathered Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah.
  3. So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations.
  4. But when he had thought this over, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
  5. As Jesus went on from there, two men who were blind followed Him, crying out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
  6. But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions—
  7. And all the crowds were amazed and were saying, “This man cannot be the Son of David, can he?”
  8. And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
  9. And two people who were blind, sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
  10. But the crowd sternly warned them to be quiet; yet they cried out all the more, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
  11. Now the crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!”
  12. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple area, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became indignant,
  13. “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is He?” They *said to Him, “The son of David.”
  14. He *said to them, “Then how does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying,
  15. Therefore, if David calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?”
  16. And He *said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;
  17. And when he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
  18. Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
  19. Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David; Hosanna in the highest!”
  20. And Jesus responded and began saying, as He taught in the temple area, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
  21. David himself said in the Holy Spirit, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Until I put Your enemies under Your feet.”’
  22. David himself calls Him ‘Lord’; so in what sense is He his son?” And the large crowd enjoyed listening to Him.
  23. to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
  24. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;
  25. And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David
