  1. And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse him.

  7. Healing of a Man on the Sabbath

    One Sabbath, when he went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching him carefully.
  8. And Jesus responded to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?”
  9. And he said to them, “Which of you, having a son or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?”
  10. It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning.
  11. Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
  12. The Healing at the Pool on the Sabbath

    After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
  13. And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath.
  14. So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.”
  15. And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.
  16. Jesus Is Equal with God

    This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
  17. Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
  18. If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man's whole body well?
