  1. And He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom He gave the name Peter),
  2. And He allowed no one to accompany Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
  3. Peter’s Confession of Christ

    Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?”
  4. And He continued questioning them: “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and *said to Him, “You are the Christ.”
  5. And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
  6. But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and *said, “Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s purposes, but on man’s.”
  7. And six days later Jesus *took with Him Peter, James, and John, and *brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them;
  8. Peter responded and *said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here; let’s make three tabernacles, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
  9. Peter began to say to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and have followed You.”
  10. And being reminded, Peter *said to Him, “Rabbi, look, the fig tree that You cursed has withered.”
  11. As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew were questioning Him privately,
  12. But Peter said to Him, “Even if they all fall away, yet I will not!”
  13. But Peter repeatedly said insistently, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all were saying the same thing as well.
  14. And He *took with Him Peter, James, and John, and began to be very distressed and troubled.
  15. And He *came and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour?
  16. And Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire.
  17. Peter’s Denials

    And while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the slave women of the high priest *came,
  18. and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and *said, “You were with Jesus the Nazarene as well.”
  19. But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, “You really are one of them, for you are a Galilean as well.”
  20. And immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And he hurried on and began to weep.
  21. But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’”
  22. And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.]] [[And they promptly reported all these instructions to Peter and his companions. And after that, Jesus Himself also sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation.]]
  23. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”
  24. Simon, whom He also named Peter, and his brother Andrew; and James and John; and Philip and Bartholomew;
  25. And Jesus said, “Who is the one who touched Me?” And while they were all denying it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing in on You.”
