  1. These are the names of the men who are to assist you: from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;
  2. All the men assigned to the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, number 186,400. They will set out first.
  3. All the men assigned to the camp of Reuben, according to their divisions, number 151,450. They will set out second.
  4. All the men assigned to the camp of Ephraim, according to their divisions, number 108,100. They will set out third.
  5. All the men assigned to the camp of Dan number 157,600. They will set out last, under their standards.
  6. “Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him.
  7. So that they may live and not die when they come near the most holy things, do this for them: Aaron and his sons are to go into the sanctuary and assign to each man his work and what he is to carry.
  8. All their service, whether carrying or doing other work, is to be done under the direction of Aaron and his sons. You shall assign to them as their responsibility all they are to carry.
  9. as well as the posts of the surrounding courtyard with their bases, tent pegs, ropes, all their equipment and everything related to their use. Assign to each man the specific things he is to carry.
  10. At the Lord’s command through Moses, each was assigned his work and told what to carry. Thus they were counted, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  11. Bring the Levites to the front of the tent of meeting and assemble the whole Israelite community.
  12. They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting, but they themselves must not do the work. This, then, is how you are to assign the responsibilities of the Levites.”
  13. When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
  14. If only one is sounded, the leaders—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you.
  15. To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets, but not with the signal for setting out.
  16. Report on the Exploration

    They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land.
  17. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness!
  18. Then Moses and Aaron fell facedown in front of the whole Israelite assembly gathered there.
  19. and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good.
  20. But the whole assembly talked about stoning them. Then the glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting to all the Israelites.
  21. Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly,
  22. Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp.”
  23. So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses.
  24. They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?”
  25. When Korah had gathered all his followers in opposition to them at the entrance to the tent of meeting, the glory of the Lord appeared to the entire assembly.
