Yet I planted you a choice vine, wholly of pure seed. How then have you turned degenerate and become a wild vine?

“Go up through her vine-rows and destroy, but make not a full end; strip away her branches, for they are not the Lord’s.

They shall eat up your harvest and your food; they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; your fortified cities in which you trust they shall destroy with the sword.”

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Glean thoroughly as a vine the remnant of Israel; like a grape-gatherer pass your hand again over its branches.”

When I would gather them, says the Lord, there are no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree; even the leaves are withered, and what I gave them has passed away from them.”

Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trampled down my portion, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

Again you shall plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samar′ia; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit.

For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.’

you shall not build a house; you shall not sow seed; you shall not plant or have a vineyard; but you shall live in tents all your days, that you may live many days in the land where you sojourn.’

and not to build houses to dwell in. We have no vineyard or field or seed;

Nebu′zarad′an, the captain of the guard, left in the land of Judah some of the poor people who owned nothing, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

More than for Jazer I weep for you, O vine of Sibmah! Your branches passed over the sea, reached as far as Jazer; upon your summer fruits and your vintage the destroyer has fallen.

But Nebu′zarad′an the captain of the guard left some of the poorest of the land to be vinedressers and plowmen.
